RPG Night

Life Beyond 5e...

This offering is for players 21+

When you find yourself wanting to try a new gaming system, it can be difficult to find a group willing to give it a shot!

As a response, we run monthly RPG nights, with each month focusing on a different system. This is a less rigid meet-up game, and the only requirements are that you come with an open mind and collaborative spirit.

Details:

September - Star Wars: Edge of the Empire

September 12 - Star Wars: Edge of the Empire

Space Fantasy? Count us in! (we'll just wash our hands of the midi-chlorians)

This game presents a version of Star Wars that sounds ultra compelling: "Participate in grim and gritty adventures in places where morality is gray and nothing is certain."

This game wasn't exactly "under the radar" for me when it came out, but now that we love trying out new systems, it is exciting to play our first game from local publishers Fantasy Flight. The game was released in 2015, and is well-regarded among Star Wars fans and TTRPG players alike.

This date was originally scheduled for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but that system still has not arrived. This event is limited to six players.

October - Tales from the Loop

October 10 - Tales from the Loop

Fall conjures up mystery and we have a great system that is worth checking out! Once again, we will dive into Free League's Year Zero Engine for Tales from the Loop. Other systems we have played use their own variations of the dice-pool system, such as Aliens RPG and Vaesen. I recently had a chance to run a session of this game, and it was peak role play!

The adventure has us exploring the everyday lives of tweens and teens living in Boulder City, Nevada in 1986. Doctor Who marathons and Back to the Future graced the little and big screens, and arcades were filled with players in front of Bubble Bobble and Gauntlet cabinets. Adults are barely around, and the robots and magnetrine vehicles hum as they move around town.

The story starts a day after our soccer team managed to beat our rival school Pinecrest, and a group of friends gathers on Friday for some fun.

This event is limited to six players.

November - Arkham Horror RPG

November 7 - Arkham Horror RPG

Hopefully you will still be looking for a little something spooky by the time November rolls around! Arkham Horror released a new Starter Set that is both beautiful and affordable.

From the description: "An ancient force has come to the city of Arkham that threatens to consume everything in Hungering Abyss, a starter set in the world of Arkham Horror. In this all-in-one box up to five players take on the role of talented and bold investigators as they try to unravel the mystery behind empty graveyards and the sense of lurking dread that has fallen over the city of Arkham in the height of the 1920s. Whether you are brand new to collaborative storytelling table-top games or a veteran role-player, this learn-as-you-play adventure is an excellent way to get a feel for both roleplaying games and the unique Dynamic Pool System."

This event is limited to six players.

December - Marvel Multiverse RPG (II)

December 5 - Marvel Multiverse RPG

This will be our first official replay of a system from our RPG Night series. The system has updated powers to help bolster rosters of mutants, with an X-Man expansion book having just been released in August. Also, one of our long-time RPG night fixtures asked to revisit it!

Not all these heroes wear capes--some wear cowls, and others wear neither! Take on the identity (or secret identity) of your favorite Marvel characters and go on a mission to stop villains before their plans come to fruition.

This system is a fun one, and one that I have run several times since we played it last year. And as luck would have it, we should be able to run the Escape from Planet Hulk adventure from the upcoming Starter Set!

The Starter Set is projected to ship in November, but we will run a different adventure of the system if that is delayed. This event is limited to six players.
